The existing house had a glass lean-to conservatory that suffered from over heating. The brief was to enlarge the kitchen and replace the conservatory. The new design provides two linked but offset spaces; one the extended kitchen and the other a generous living space. The diagonal views across the space form a strong visual link from the kitchen to the garden.
The form of extension was a conceived as a pavilion, set back from the main house elevation and also pulled back from the boundary to allow light to enter the space on three sides. The flat zinc roof is trimmed with a steel beam and over sails to provide summer shading. The brick colour and detailing ties the extension to the original house whilst the formal, canted piers reinforces the idea of a pavilion.
